Registration

Poster Session

Participants willing to present a poster in LISHEP should send their name, session in which the poster will be shown, title and an abstract of around 200 words, to Alberto Santoro (Alberto.Santoro@cern.ch) before December 30. The size of the poster should be a maximum of 1.2 m height and 1.0 m width.

Presentations

The following facilities will be available : * Retroprojector for Slides
* LCD Projectors to be used with your Laptop or with the Laptop/PC from the organization
* Pen Drive to copy your talk and later put on the web page
* Microphones and loud speakers * VRVS for outside attendance. The rooms will be announced on the web page.
Remote participant asking questions through VRVS are welcome. * If you have any technical question send it to Eduardo Revoredo about available hardware and software.

Transportation

From the Airport to Hotel Novo Mundo

We strongly advise you to take a blue taxi from COOTRAMO, which you can book in advance from their web page, or you can book and pay it at a desk in the airport. The price of the run is R$ 60, which is about U$D 25, for LISHEP participants (please tell them that you are from LISHEP). Yellow taxis are cheaper but with COOTRAMO you will have better and safer services.

Please inform beforehand the Secretariat of the date and time of your arrival, airline, flight number and departure city. 

From the Hotels to UERJ

1. BY TAXI
Taxis are available in front of the Hotels. A run to UERJ costs around R$20,00 which are at your expense.


2. BY METRO:
The nearest metro station, CATETE, is at about 10 minutes walking distance from the Hotels. There, you take the train going in the direction SAENS PENA , at ESTACIO station you comute to line 2 (LINHA 2), direction PAVUNA and get out at station MARACANA, which has a direct exit to the University (nearly 300 meters away from the station). Remember to print and carry with you the maps, of UERJ and surroundings and building plants which are available at the web.

The room 3017A, located on the 3rd floor of block A, in the Physics Institute, will be available to the speakers. 

VISA

You MAY NEED A VISA to enter Brazil, depending on your nationality. Please, contact the Brazilian diplomatic representation in your country for more detailed information. 

General Information about Rio de Janeiro

Weather
Rio de Janeiro is located on the Tropics. During this period of year, from March 21st, temperatures range from 23 C (72 F) to 35 (95 F). 

Time Zone
Rio's time zone is Greenwich Mean Time minus 3 hours (GMT -3).  For more details, go to http://www.worldtimeserver.com/.

Electrical Power

Electrical power in Rio is mostly 110 Volts / 60 cycles, A.C, but some hotels provide 220 Volts outlets. 

Phone Calls

Direct dial and collect calls can be placed from any public telephone. Payed phones are located everywhere and run on cards which are widely available.


Local Currency

Brazilian currency is the Real (R$). The official rate of exchange is available from daily newspapers, hotel cashiers, banks and travel agencies. Cash and travellers checks are easily exchanged at these locations. Many hotels and shops accept foreign currency and Credit Cards. Currently, the dollar to real rate has been around US$ 1.00  ~ R$ 2,30. We use the site http://www.oanda.com/convert/classic to update the currency changes.

Business hours

Shops in Rio de Janeiro and most offices are open from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Malls and/or Shopping Centers remain open from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. . Banks are open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 pm.. Many pharmacies, supermarkets and small grocery stores are open also on Sunday.

Tipping

Tips are usually given in restaurants and bars, when not included in the bill. They vary from 10% to 15%.
