LISHEP2004 - INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL ON HIGH ENERGY PHYSICS

LISHEP2004 is dedicated to Digital Divide and the last developments on Grid projects for High Energy Physics.

We will have talks by experts and leaders of the main Grid projects on High Energy Physics. Three round tables will discuss specific subjects. The first one will be dedicated to Latin America, the second to Collider experiments, and the third to the problem of Digital Divide.

Arrival

Airport instructions are generally presented on board of your aircraft. Rio arrival procedures are very standard. As soon as you arrive you will go through passport control with separate counters for Brazilian and non-Brazilian citizens.

Be aware that, depending on your nationality, you MAY NEED A VISA to be admitted to Brazil. If you have a TOURIST VISA, please remember to check TOURISM in the appropriate space of the admission form.

If you have any problem feel free to call us. On the main page of LISHEP2004, you find some useful phone numbers. Do not forget to exchange some money to Reais. The airport is a convenient place to do that.

Clothes

Cariocas (Rio de Janeiro natives) dress rather casually, shorts and sandals are frequently seen on the streets. 

It is summer! Expect temperatures between 25 C (77 F) and 40 C (104 F).

Be cautious with the sun and do not forget a sun block lotion before going to the beach. Avoid wearing jewelry or expensive items.

Registration 

Please take your passports and air tickets to the secretariat as soon as possible, preferably in the act of registration (February 16th from 7:30 AM to 11:00 AM).

If you need help to confirm your return flight, please ask Ms. Bianca or Ms. Rosemond on the Registration Desk.

The Conference Dinner will be held on Thursday 19th at 8:30 PM at a “Churrascaria” (Porcão Rio's). This dinner is included in your registration fee (no drinks and dessert are included). If you have been waived the registration fee, please contact the Secretariat ASAP. In this case, R$ 50.00 will be charged for the dinner. Transportation will be available from the Hotel Gloria to the restaurant and back.

Do not forget to register for the Conference Dinner.

Computer Network Facility

A common computer account will be available for the participants. You will have internet access through this account as well as wireless network access in the computer room and the conference room.  

Your Talk

Please make your slides available before the school in PDF, PS, TEX, HTML, PPT format or by providing a web link. It will be possible to use your laptop for your presentation. However, please bring a copy of your slides just in case of unexpected problems.
