, understanding the vital role
these issues for our field’s future, commissioned the Standing Committee on Inter-regional
in 1998, to survey and monitor the state of the networks
by our field, and identify problems. For the past three years the SCIC
has focused on understanding and seeking the means of reducing or
the Digital Divide, and proposed in ICFA that these issues, as they
our field of High Energy Physics, be brought to our community for
This led to ICFA’s approval, in July 2003, of the Digital Divide and HEP Grid Workshop
A series of reports by the SCIC to ICFA (February 2003), on the major
used by high energy physics and on the Digital Divide, may be found at http://cern.ch/icfa-scic
The main purpose of
Workshop is to discuss the Digital Divide and its
impact over High
Energy Physics Grid Projects : countries ability to take
of HEP Collaborations, network availability and other related topics.
There will be only invited talks. If you are interested to present a poster,
contact the Workshop chairs .
Round tables are being organized where
of HEP community, governments and funding agencies will debate topics
to Digital Divide.
During the two
preceeding the Workshop, a series of Tutorials will be held at UERJ.
